BRAM SIKKENS

BRAM SIKKENS

Who am I?

My name is Bram Sikkens, a Mechelen native through and through. Since I was 8 years old, you could often find me on the Leuvense Vaart, where I pursue my passion for kayaking. From a young age, I’ve cherished the dream of becoming the world’s best kayaker someday. The first part of my career mainly involved the non-Olympic but highly adventurous whitewater discipline, where I managed to clinch a European title as a junior.

Later in my career, I dared to take the leap to pursue my Olympic dream. After securing a European title in the under-23 category and achieving a top 12 finish at the elite level, I landed a top-level sports contract, which came with the opportunity to dedicate myself full-time to my sport.

To this day, I continue to pursue my dream. In a career filled with many beautiful and challenging moments, I’ve learned above all that we must always keep dreaming, and as long as we don’t give up on our dreams, difficult times are often followed by beautiful ones.

Worlcup Poznan: Time to rest and recover for the next season

My Dream

My dream is to become the best athlete I can possibly be. Pursuing it is one of the most beautiful, yet simultaneously one of the toughest experiences one can endure. It consists of a mixture of wonderful moments and sometimes prolonged periods of doubt and disappointment. For me, that’s precisely the beauty of chasing your dreams.

My dream is not only to enjoy the destination but also the journey along the way.

My dream is to conquer all challenging moments, to learn from the mistakes I make, and to discover how strong and resilient we can be as human beings.

I dream of having the courage to keep on dreaming.

I can only say that I am proud of the things we accomplished as a team. Back at square one, but let’s continue the game.

Just before the start of the international season, I present to you my new website. Perhaps you are interested, perhaps not. I hope this can become a central place where many channels can come together. Where I share information with you about the various activities I undertake and the results I achieve. Sharing beautiful moments, but perhaps also less pleasant ones. Sharing goals, but also dreams.

You might have noticed already, but in my logo, you can find the Olympic colors. For me, just like for many athletes, it’s a dream to one day participate in these games. Whether this dream ever becomes a reality, I leave that unanswered, but it’s mainly the values behind the games that I support.

“THE BEST VIEW COMES AFTER THE HARDEST CLIMB.”
You can also see the shape of various mountains in it. Pursuing your dream is like climbing a mountain for me. Just as in the term “supercompensation,” the journey consists of several peaks, but also multiple valleys. And sometimes, you have to go through the deepest valley to reach the higher peak.

Through this website, I also hope to find partners who are willing to support me on my journey. I say partners because I believe it’s crucial that we support each other. That we can embark on an adventure together and that we, together, can write a beautiful story.
