Wednesday May 8th
A few months ago, everything seemed lost. But now, several months later, I am once again filled with motivation and energy as I embark on a new international season, this time with a new partner, Rafael Bastiaens, for the K2 500m.
Our first race will immediately be one of the most important of the season: the European Olympic qualifier. Last year at the World Championships in Duisburg, 7 boats have already qualified. In that race, Artuur Peters and I finished 12th.
All countries that have not yet qualified may send athletes who have not qualified in another event. This is why I am no longer allowed to compete with Artuur this year. Only the winner of this tournament from all these countries will qualify for the Olympic Games.
As a new team, it’s difficult to assess our chances of winning, but I do know that our boat has the potential to be extremely fast. Trainings and tests have been going well, and currently, the team is in good health. Mentally, I feel ready, ready to race and fight for that last ticket. Ready to enjoy it, but above all, ready to push ourselves to the limit again.
At last, I want to thank everyone who has brought me this far, who has supported me in every difficult moment, and those who have continued to believe in me despite everything. Let’s give it our all!
